Why engine oil need to be filtered
There will have mixture of metal and other impurities generated from friction engine parts after lubricating oil of the engine work for some time. Besides that, there are some additional foreign substances, such as dust in the air pass through the breathing tube, filler, etc. Besides that, machine oil itself also produce materials such as organic acids , asphalt and coke carbides due to oxidation process. It accelerate the engine wear which can cause blockage and leakage of water. These impurities will promote the wear and tear of component parts, which cause corrosion.
Therefore, a filter of engine oil need to add into the engine lubricating oil filter system to filter out the above-mentioned harmful impurities in the engine oil. Through this, it can protect the main component and extend its life. In general, the upstream of filter machine is a pump while downstream is the main oil channel.
Working principle of oil filter
Oil filter works can be divided into three types according to the general method of filtering impurities which are: mechanical separation, centrifugation and magnetic attraction.
Mechanical separation also can be further divided into three types according to their functions. It can be in the form of a purely mechanical separation, overhead separation and adsorption separation. Mesh filter is commonly found under purely mechanical separation category by using certain filter pore size to filter mechanical impurities and sludge.Filter impurities that larger than filter pore sizeare blocked and filtered out. Overhead separation refers to n small particles that adhere to the inner wall of the filter, and particles are gradually increased, and make the filterpore becomes smaller which cause formation of the overheadphenomenon that make the filtered particle have smaller size than the size of filter pore. Overhead phenomena easy to happen due to the irregular shape of oil particles. In addition there are gum substance in the oil often adhere to the filter surface or filter pore wall to form adsorption. Real situation of filtration not justinvolve single general principle of action, it may comprise of a combination of several actions.
Oil centrifuged by a high-speed rotation of the rotor, so that impurities in the oil thrown towards the inner wall of the rotorby centrifugal force, so that separated from the oil.
Is the use of a permanent magnet magnetic attraction force of the magnetic iron particles adsorb the oil, let them cycle back and forth in the oil lubrication system, harm engine parts
Magnetic attraction use permanent magnetic magnet to adsorb iron particles in the oil to stop them to cycle back in the oil lubrication system which can cause harmful to engine.
Types of Engine Oil filter Cartridge
Microporous paper filter is paper immersed in some special resin. Stiffness and strength are greatly improved after thermal treatment which can withstand a certain level of pressure. Because normal pure paper filter can easily be squeezed by oil contraction which shorten filter’s life. To overcome this drawback, we can add filter net or lined skeleton on the lining of inner walls. Besides that, we can make the surface of filter paper in waveform, it can greatly improved filter’s life.
Current filter cartridge is generally one-time type, it need to be replaced after the blockage. Press paper filter is usually installed in the main oil channels for full-flow filter, but also can be mounted on the bypass road parallel to the main branch oil passage for bypass filtration.
Sawdust filter, made up of red and white pine sawdust as raw material. After sorting through the sieve, it mixed with paper pulp to form mold, followed by drying and dehydration.Advantages of sawdust filter is simple operation process and good filter fineness. However, due to the dense filter structure and greater resistance , it will have shorter lifewhich can only be used to bypass the filter .
Plastic filters, made up of plastic with certain viscosity and can withstandheat corrosion, the molded sintered porous filter has become depth filtration . This filter can continue to use after a maintenance .
Metal mesh filter, use 100 to 200 per inch mesh or brass mesh phosphor bronze as filter material. The filter has a cylindrical shape and laminate-shaped . Metal mesh filter have small flow resistance, reliable action , easy to clean andoften used as a full-flow filter. Filter fineness depend on the size of the pores. In recent years, due to the development of the chemical industry , nylon material can become the support of the screen frame with a nylon fabric instead of metal mesh. Such structure saving non-ferrous metals and it is conducive to the development of production .
Wound filter, with steel or brass band rolled on the surface. There is aconvex shape at certain distance on the surface with height of 004 ~ 009 mm. Make the metal band around the surface of a corrugatedtube, raised surface with a bottom surface and a lower contact zone , formed a lot of space , which is winding gap -type filter.
Blade-type filter, it use thin steel strip to make three shapes of steel, filter, spacer and blade. The thickness of the filter is 0.1 to 0.2 mm , the thickness of the spacer and the blade is 0.06 to 0.08 mm . Alternately stacked by a number of filter sheets and spacers to form the filter . Blade fixed to the other strut , each blade is inserted between two filter. The edge of the dirt adhering to the filter was scraped off the blade when the filter is rotated, settling at the bottom of the filter housing and can discharge through sewage plug.Turning of filter can manually , foot movement and alsomechanical drive .
Centrifugal filter. By using the pressure of lubrication systemgenerated by the oil nozzle by a reaction torque to drive rotor rotates. Oil from the rotor can separate the solid contaminantsby the centrifugal force. It will accumulate on the inner wall of the rotor , the oil at rotor center portion get clean and back to the oil pan from the nozzle . This is the role of centrifugal filter. If the oil from the central portion of the rotordirectly into the main oil path, it will become full-flow centrifugal filter, and the aforementioned structure is called a shunt centrifugal filter.
